New Textbook on College Diversity Released by Kendall Hunt Publishing Co.
Dubuque, IA (PRWEB) April 6, 2009 -- Aaron Thompson and Joseph Cuseo's new book "Diversity and the College Experience," released by Kendall Hunt Publishing Co., provides college instructors with an opportunity to educate undergraduate students about the importance of diversity for their educational experience, career preparation, and personal growth. Written specifically for college students, this book provides diversity information and exercises in a context students can relate to.
There are many publications and textbooks about diversity, but Thompson and Cuseo's approach is unique. "Diversity and the College Experience" is written specifically to address the challenges and experiences that college students face. Many students come into a college setting with their own biases and stereotypes. This book provides the basic information about what diversity is, provides a model for educating students on how to overcome bias, and offers steps to appreciating diversity. In addition, it provides an action-oriented plan and useful exercises that allow students to use what they have learned from the book.
Appreciating diversity can make a dramatic difference in the personal success of a student during college and afterward in the workplace. According to Thompson, author and lecturer on diversity, "Students need to understand the benefit of diversity when they enter college so they can overcome bias and appreciate diversity in their everyday lives. This allows students to participate in the process of becoming culturally competent."
